My Bao Buns is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It’s enjoyed by millions daily. It’s simple, it’s fast, it tastes delicious. They are fine and they look fantastic. My Bao Buns is something that I have loved my entire life.

To make the perfect bao buns, you need both yeast and baking powder to help the buns to rise. Start by measuring all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Then measure the warm water and oil into a measuring jug. The water needs to be a bit more than lukewarm to help activate the yeast, but it shouldn't be boiling hot.

The ingredients needed to make My Bao Buns:
  1. Prepare 1 cup (250 ml) Self-Raising Flour
  2. Prepare 1/2 cup Bread Flour
  3. Get 1 pinch Salt
  4. Prepare 1 teaspoon Dry Yeast
  5. Get 1/2 cup Warm Water
  6. Make ready 1 tablespoon Sugar *add extra 1 tablespoon if you want sweeter
  7. Make ready 1 teaspoon Rice Vinegar
  8. Prepare 1 tablespoon Oil of your choice *plus extra to brush

Popular as street food and an everyday family dish in China, steamed bao buns (Baozi, 包子) is one of the foods I really enjoy cooking. Traditional bao buns are filled with seasoned pork belly, but of course, I opt for a plant-based alternative. I make a sweet & savory hoisin tempeh using my favorite tempeh cooking method: steam, marinate, and bake. Marinated, baked tofu would be a delicious option in here as well.

Instructions to make My Bao Buns:
  1. Place Warm Water, Dry Yeast and Sugar in a bowl, mix gently and set aside.
  2. Place Self Raising Flour, Bread Flour and Salt in a large bowl, and mix to combine. Make a well in the centre and pour in the yeast mixture, Oil and Rice Vinegar. Mix well to form a soft dough. Allow to rest for 1 hour.
  3. Divide the dough into 8 portions. Roll each portion into 5mm thin oblong. Brush Oil over the top side, and fold in half. *Note: You may wish to brush Sesame Oil for extra flavour.
  4. Place each bun on a piece of baking paper (size 10 x 10cm). Allow to rest for 30 to 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Pour water into a steamer and bring to the boil over high heat. Place buns into steamer, cover with lid and cook for 10 minutes. Repeat with remaining buns.
  6. Serve while they’re still warm with your favourite fillings. Today I filled with stir-fried Prawns, Tomato and Egg with Lettuce. Any flavours will go well with these buns.

I make a sweet & savory hoisin tempeh using my favorite tempeh cooking method: steam, marinate, and bake. Marinated, baked tofu would be a delicious option in here as well.
