  2. Make ready 1/2 cup Chopped Coconut
  3. Take 4 tsp Soaked Rice
  4. Prepare 2-3 Green chillies chopped
  5. Make ready 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  6. Get 1 tsp Besan
  7. Make ready to taste Salt
  8. Take For Masala paste

  10. Get 2 tsp Poppy Seeds
  11. Make ready 1 " Ginger chopped
  12. Make ready 2 Cardamoms
  13. Prepare 1" Cinnamon

  15. Make ready 2 Potatoes cut into long pieces

  17. Make ready 1 Bayleaf
  18. Get 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  19. Get 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  20. Get 1 tsp Coriander powder
  21. Take 1 tsp Curry powder
  22. Make ready 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  23. Make ready 1/4 cup Thick Coconut milk
  24. Make ready 2 tbsp Oil
  25. Get To taste Salt

Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan, and deep-fry a few vadas at a time. Vada Curry - A traditional curry from Tamilnadu made with lentil dumplings that is served with idlis. Vada Curry / Masala Vada Curry or popularly called as Set Dosa Vada Curry - One of the famous south indian gravies that serves as a side dish for idli, dosa , pongal etc. It is very addictive if you like.

Instructions to make Coconut vada curry:
  1. Grind the chopped coconut to a coarse mixture.
  2. Add rice(soaked and strained) green chillies cumin seeds and little water. - The coconut and rice ratio should be 3:1. - Blend to a thick paste.
  3. Transfer to a bowl and add besan and salt.
  4. Mix well and make tikki shaped bara and deep fry till golden brown from all sides. - In the meantime prepare the masala paste.
  5. Take all the listed ingredients in a blender and make a smooth paste by adding 2-3tbsp water.
  6. Fry the potatoes till light brown. - Heat oil in a kadhai, add bay leaves and cumin seeds.
  7. When splutter add the tomato puree and turmeric powder. - Mix well and cook for 2mins.
  8. Add the prepared masala paste and mix.
  9. Take coriander powder, curry powder and red chilli powder in a small bowl. - Add little water and mix well.
  10. Add this mixture to the kadhai. - Cook till oil separates. - Add the fried potatoes, mix. - Add 2 cups of hot water and mix well.
  11. Cook covered for 3-4 mins. Adjust seasoning. - Then add the coconut milk and mix well.
  12. Finally add the fried bara, mix lightly and switch off. - Keep covered for 10-15mins before serving.
  13. While preparing the gravy, make it a little watery than the normal gravy, as the fried baras will absorb a lot of moisture.
  14. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with hot steamed rice, naan or paratha.
  15. To make the curry red in colour, you can add kashmiri red chilli powder. - You can use chana daal in place of rice.
